Jana's Campaign

About Us

Jana’s Campaign is a national group of advocates and volunteers who are committed to continuing Jana’s work of protecting women. As a young adult, Jana served as a sexual assault and domestic violence advocate and as a lobbyist promoting public policy that supported women and their rights.

This educational and advocacy organization was motivated into action as part of the national campaign - Eleven-Hundred Torches, that was created after Jana’s death. Committed to serving others in her honor, Jana’s Campaign advocates have formed this grassroots organization for the purpose of working to stop domestic and dating violence.

At the heart of our movement are Christie Brungardt (Jana’s mother) and Curt Brungardt (Jana’s stepfather). Both Christie and Curt are professors of leadership studies at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas. Dr. Christie Brungardt’s expertise includes women and leadership and women’s studies, while Dr. Curt Brungardt specializes in political leadership, social change, and community organizing. Supporting the Brungardts are dozens of advocates, including Jana’s Campaign staff members, a legal team, college interns, and volunteers all working to promote safety and justice for victims of domestic violence. Our advocates are working to reduce violence against women at the state, national, and international level.
