We believe colleges and universities can and should do more to prevent gender and relationship violence. We work to provide higher education institutions with training opportunities and resources to improve their prevention and response efforts to sexual violence, partner violence and stalking on campus.

Regional Campus Safety Summits
Jana’s Campaign hosts regional and affordable workshops for college and university administrators, faculty, staff and students for the purpose of providing guidance and important knowledge about preventing and responding to gender and relationship violence. These summits host national experts and encourage the sharing of best practices among participants. Individuals who most benefit from these summits include: Title IX officers, college/university legal representatives, public safety officers, residential life and student affairs personnel, athletic directors, women’s center staff, student leaders, health and counseling professionals and other campus and community representatives interested in campus safety.

Our Other Projects
Drs. Curt and Christie Brungardt, founders of Jana’s Campaign, Inc. and professors at Fort Hays State University (Hays, KS) have recently served as guest editors of a special issue for the eJournal of Public Affairs. This unique publication focuses on higher education’s role in preventing and responding to gender-based violence. The eJournal issue includes peer reviewed scholarly manuscripts illustrating the latest assessment data and research in the field and practitioner-based articles focusing on best practices and programming highlights. This online issue also includes multimedia submissions. See the eJournal here.
In partnership with the Women’s Leadership Project, Jana’s Campaign helps deliver the collegiate prevention program “The Red Flag Campaign” on the campus of Fort Hays State University every October. The Red Flag Campaign is a public awareness campaign designed to address dating violence and promote the prevention of dating violence on college campuses. The campaign was created using a “bystander intervention” strategy, encouraging friends and other campus community members to “say something” when they see warning signs (“red flags”) for dating violence in a friend’s relationship. The campaign posters reflect racially and ethnically diverse models, and illustrate both heterosexual and same-sex relationships. See the Red Flag Campaign here.
COMING SOON- The National Gender Violence Curriculum Infusion Repository is an online inventory and repository that collects, organizes, stores and shares gender-based violence prevention and intervention subject content for the purpose of assisting collegiate academic leaders infusing this critical subject matter into their academic programming. In honor and memory of Jana Lynne Mackey, the University of Kansas has established the “Jana Mackey Distinguished Lecture Series.” In an effort to continue Jana’s important work, this lecture series was established to raise awareness about issues close to Jana’s heart, namely breaking down barriers and fostering opportunities to secure women’s rights leaders and experts with the dual purpose of enhancing understanding and calling for involvement and service while providing a platform for discussion and dialogue.
Jana’s Campaign Board Members, Curt Brungardt, Christie Brungardt and Sara Brungardt have joined a new planning task force at Fort Hays State University focusing on reducing gender violence. FHSU’s Campus Safe Initiative goal is to improve the universities prevention and response to gender-based violence. Sader and the Brungardts are also faculty members at FHSU.

Workshops & Presentations
Drs. Curt and Christie Brungardt are inspirational speakers with a powerful message. Individually or collectively, Curt and Christie share their message of hope over despair, courage over fear, love over hate and peace over violence. Following the murder of their daughter in 2008, they have traveled the country promoting gender and relationship violence prevention. Equally important, as leadership educators they call on all of us to answer our personal call to action. Their message is ideal for all audiences and individuals who are interested in making a difference. The Brungardts or other Jana’s Campaign representatives are available to serve as speakers at your event, conference or school. Fees are often based on school/conference budget considerations, and all proceeds from speaking engagements go to support Jana’s Campaign, Inc..
“I have never heard a speech that moved me so much! I think from now on I will start to live my life more for others and be less selfish. Thank you for opening my eyes and sharing your story!”
“The presentation that Curt and Christie put on is a wonderful combination of testimony, education and a call to action. An auditorium full of college students can be a difficult audience but every member was engaged and the question and answer session was just as impressive as the actual presentation. Certainly one of the best presentations I’ve attended in four years.”
“By sharing their personal tragedy in a way that inspires hope, we all left the day believing each and every one of us are able to make a difference in the world.”
“The Brungardts know how to engage a college audience. I was expecting just another speaker, and I got so much more.”
“Jana’s Story was an eye opening experience for me. This made me more aware of harmful dating relationships.”
“Curt- In the past two days I have had so many conversations about your presentation! Each conversation includes many exclamation points and ‘wow’s! You are making an incredible impact telling Jana’s Story! If you ever doubt it, let me know and I’ll remind you of what I’m hearing here!!”
“The Brungardts’ presentation was not only a reminder to Doane College that dating violence can happen to anyone, it encouraged many students to speak out against dating violence. Their presentation had a lasting effect on students, encouraging them to be proactive towards the issue of domestic violence.”
“I have seen Curt Brungardt speak three times now and have never been disappointed! With each presentation, each moving story, I become increasingly passionate about women’s rights and motivated to stop domestic and dating violence.”
“From listening to your speech, I would never guess you have been through a trauma in your lifetime. You are so happy! I love it! You send a message to everyone to keep living your life no matter what! You inspire me and picked me up as an individual. Thank you for that!”
