Verizon WirelessHays, KS – Jana’s Campaign, Inc. announced today that it has received a $10,000 grant from Verizon Wireless HopeLine Program to support its ‘Love Doesn’t Hurt’ teen dating violence prevention program. “These resources will be used to target middle and high school students in the rural areas of Kansas,” says Curt Brungardt, Jana’s Campaign president. “Combined with our local fundraising efforts, this grant will allow us to have a major impact regionally.” Research shows that 1 in 3 adolescents will be the victim of physical, sexual, emotional or verbal abuse from a dating partner. Violent behaviors typically begin between ages of 12 and 18.

Jana’s Campaign is a regional gender violence prevention and education organization located in Hays, Kansas. Jana’s Campaign was created in honor of Jana Mackey who lost her life to domestic violence in 2008. Mackey, a Hays High School graduate, was a law student at the University of Kansas and had spent years herself volunteering and helping victims of sexual assault and domestic violence in Lawrence.

Verizon Wireless, through its HopeLine Program and other social responsibility initiatives, has a long history of working to reduce and end domestic violence. Over the last decade alone, Verizon Wireless has donated millions of dollars to organizations throughout the United States for the purpose of preventing and responding to domestic and dating violence.
